Writer Martin Walker has praised the French region of Perigord, citing its 'unique charm' as a key selling point and perhaps encouraging more people to take French holidays in the area.
Walker made the comments during a recent interview cited by Wopopular.com, wherein he was asked about his love for the region and about his latest novel 'Black Diamond' - a fictitious work named after France's famed truffles.
After describing what inspired the novel, Walker went on to talk about his passion for all Perigord has to offer - such as its scenery, wine and delicious produce. The latter is a particular draw, he said, referring to 'its ducks and venison, its foie gras and truffles.'
Furthermore, he added: 'Wine is one of the great pleasures of life and between the great wines of Bordeaux and the much cheaper (but very good) wines of the Bergerac, I'm spoiled for choice.'
It is not just the savoury delights of the region that pull Walker in; as he added that the area's 'living history' is equally enticing.
'It's a key part of the unique charm of the Perigord,' he said. 'And along with its food and wines, its warm and gentle climate, its enchanting landscape and lovely old stone buildings and friendly people, it adds up to a little corner of paradise.
'I love it dearly,' the writer concluded on CNN.com.
