General French News | Reopening of the Paris Catacombs
After three months of renovation work, the catacombs, an important part of the history of Paris, are once again open to visitors.
The catacombs, an underground labyrinth in the heart of Paris is one of the most popular tourist sites.
The remains of around 6 million Parisians can be seen along two kilometres of obscure tunnels and narrow passages. They were transported here between the end of the 18th century and the middle of the 19th century at the time of the closure of cemeteries. With a ‘romantico-macabre’ decor this is a site with a lot of history and emotion which takes visitors back in time.
