French Travel news -2011. | New flights for your next holidays in the Auvergne

In the humble opinion of Your French Holidays, the Auvergne is a much underrated and under-visited region.



This splendid heartland of France, complete with its awesome volcanic scenery and some of the most idyllic countryside anywhere in France, is ideal for lovers of the great French outdoors (with all manner of sports to get involved in, from simple hiking to air ballooning) and perfect for anyone keen to just get away from it all in a tranquil rural environment. And as winter approaches, you can even consider a ski holiday there!

The region is dotted with charming places to stay and boasts a unique culinary identity. Its offerings include Cantal and Bleu d'Auvergne cheeses and the world famous Puy lentils.

However, often cited as a key reason for the fact that it's not on many French holidaymakers' radar is the lack of good travel links from the UK. But that is slowly changing.

There was great news from Flybe this week, as they have just announced a new route from Southampton to the region's capital Clermont-Ferrand.

Flights will commence on 17th May and run through until 6th October.
