French Travel News-2010/2011 | France most popular destination for British skiers

Friday, February, 18th at 15:45 by Deborah Bates

When searching for a skiing chalet, France is the most popular choice for British winter sports enthusiasts.

That's according to search results recently published by Bing, which showed that Tignes, Chamonix, Morzine and Meribel were the top four destinations searched for by UK-based skiers.

Canada's Banff was the only non-French location to make the top five skiing destinations for UK travellers, and the top ten saw three more French locations proving more popular than other worldwide resorts.

La Plagne, Courchevel and Val Thorens all made the cut, cementing the popularity of the Gallic country for its snowy pistes.

'The last-minute skiing holiday is something that many money-saving Brits are all too familiar with,' said a representative for Bing, Tamsin Todd.

'More often that not though, choosing the right place is hard and trudging through tiresome lists of options and places to go is time-consuming.' That is why Brits looking for a holiday of this type should contact holiday-planning professionals, who will be able to provide advice and guidance.

According to The Telegraph, the piste conditions in France have been described as 'more than satisfactory,' with many saying many skiing resorts are in 'good shape.'

Snowfall is set to be even greater this weekend, also, as a north-easterly change in weather should add to the white conditions. 'Across most of the Alps, snow is either falling or will be by the end of the day,' said a spokesperson for the Ski Club of Great Britain, Betony Garner - providing encouraging news for would-be skiers.
