French Travel News-2010/2011 | Families can save up to £1,500 on summer holidays

Tuesday, January, 24th at 11:20 by Deborah Bates

Brits hoping to take French holidays this summer could save a significant amount of money by shopping around for their currency, car hire and flights.

Research undertaken by an independent travel firm has show that a family of four could save up to £1,500 on their vacation, by comparing prices quoted by a range of providers. This is good news for tourists who have already chosen from the wide range of holiday gites in France and now need to confirm the other aspects of their trip.

Beating the crowds by even one month can make a lot of difference and could pay for a second holiday if Brits are smart in their search.

'Doing your research, being flexible and booking well in advance can save holidaymakers sizeable sums of money, sometimes enough to pay for a second holiday,' claims Trevor Davis, a travel director who spoke to The Metro.

'However, it's not always easy to spot the opportunity and can often require people to put in time, effort and understanding of how the market for holidays and services operate. Hopefully, this research will be helpful to these people and save them a considerable amount on this Summer's holiday.'

Sean Tipton, a representative of ABTA, echoed this opinion, adding: 'It is definitely worthwhile to shop around and it can be fun, too. January and February are the best time to buy.'

Speaking to The Scotsman, Tipton added: 'Demand tends to rise the nearer you get to your date of travel, so it makes sense to book early.'
