What are your memories of camping holidays in France? Being stuck in a poky little tent with a soggy groundsheet, on a campsite with zero facilities and even less fun to be had?
Well if you have not been to one of France’s many high-end, family-friendly campsites of late, then we have news for you. Today these sites, many of which now enjoy a four-star campsite ranking, are wonderful destinations packed with amenities and endless activities for the whole family to enjoy. These days more and more families are choosing to head to one of France’s parcs – a catch-all term that signifies an all-inclusive camping experience. The beauty is that there is such variety. You can head to the coast – many such parcs are found by the seaside, offering you the chance to combine a camping break with the best that a beach holiday can offer, from Brittany to the Languedoc. Or you could head inland to enjoy the best of France’s wonderful scenery and inland attractions, complete with activities such as walking and cycling to amuse the kids if you fancy a day out.
Some parcs are located near towns and larger villages, which offers the chance to do a bit of sightseeing on your doorstep, while others offer a complete escape with total tranquillity.
The accommodation in French campsite parcs is increasingly focused on luxury mobile homes. These offer a home-from-home experience, with all mod cons included for self-catering in a homely environment, often with plenty of space within your decked terrace or garden area to enjoy a barbecue, lounge in the sun and relax with a drink. Most have two or three bedrooms, perfect for families who also like to have a little space when en vacances. Crucially, the beds are comfortable too!
The parcs also have a huge array of facilities for the children to enjoy, from well-established kids’ clubs to ever more impressive water parks, swimming pools and other sporting attractions. Most are very well organised, with the focus on safety and enjoyment thanks to trained staff – one of whom will usually be appointed as your ‘rep’ – with a helpful and professional attitude.
You can eat well on-site too, in an array of eateries, while useful facilities such as spas and gyms are becoming increasingly prevalent.
