French Travel News-2010/2011 | Success for Paris in Global Hotel Performance rankings

Tuesday, March, 16th at 20.00 by Joe Elvin
The 2010 Global Hotel Performance rankings has provided further proof of the growing popularity of French holidays - particularly those in Paris.

The list - released every year on Deloitte.com - rates the success of the occupancy figures, average room rates and revpar rankings of hotels throughout the world.

In 2010's results, Paris was the only city to place amongst the top ten countries for each category. The French capital scored best in the revenue per room rankings, where its revpar ranking of 172 was judged as the sixth-best in the world.

Paris also placed tenth best for its average room rate ($226/£140) and hotel occupancy (76 per cent) in what will be judged as a massive success for tourism in the capital.

The successful hotel occupancy figures in particular may encourage tourists to plan their French holidays ahead of time, in order to successfully reserve their chosen hotel.

The capital was the only French city to place amongst the top 20 lists in a poll dominated by European destinations.

Commenting on Europe's success in the hotel industry, Deloitte’s Global Managing Director, Alex Kyriakidi, told Travel Weekly: "Against a background of a sluggish economic recovery and austerity measures introduced across Europe, hotel performance recovered relatively well during 2010, with revpar up just short of 10 per cent to 63 Euros."
