French Travel news -2011. | Consider a Calvados Christmas

If you are keen to get away to France for a Christmas holiday, have you considered visiting Calvados for some festive fun?
There are plenty of great seasonal events coming up in this diversely appealing Normandy department. In Falaise, the Christmas market is complemented by yuletide concerts, activities, street entertainment and a firework display.

The town is the birthplace of William the Conqueror, and his château will become a theatre stage from 2nd to 31st December with a production of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ being held in the keeps, which lend some authentic, magical mystery to proceedings.

Other great markets will be taking place in Caen (where children also have their own Christmas Market on Place Bouchard, with shows and street entertainment), pretty port Honfleur, Lisieux and St-Pierre-sur-Dives, which ranks among Normandy’s most authentic with over 150 stalls selling their wares in France’s biggest medieval hall.

For something a little different head to Omaha Beach on the 18th December for the annual Santa’s sand-yachting race or try to visit Loisirsland – France’s sole itinerant leisure show – which will be rocking up to Caen from 21st to 31st December.
