The 300 year old Canal du Midi in Languedoc-Roussillon skirts the sun-drenched shores of the Mediterranean in the South of France, before meandering inland through ancient villages, Roman fortifications and famed vineyards.
This canal is defined by its beauty, lined with plane trees and crossed by pretty arched bridges.
European Waterways has 5 fully-crewed luxury hotel barges accommodating from 4 to 10 passengers that cruise this beautiful canal.
‘Anjodi’ between Marseillan and Le Somail;
‘Rosa’ from Carcassonne to Toulouse;
‘Enchanté’ between Puichéric and Sallèles d’Aude;
‘Athos’ between Marseillan and Sallèles d’Aude
‘Alouette’ between Beziers and Carcassonne.
‘Anjodi’ and ‘Rosa’ both starred in the successful BBC TV series ‘French Odyssey’, when celebrity chef Rick Stein cruised on a voyage of culinary discovery.
Highlights of a cruise in Languedoc-Roussillon aboard one of our hotel barges typically include excursions to Carcassonne, the most complete medieval fortified city in existence and Narbonne’s Archbishop’s Palace; private wine tastings; escorted visits to ancient abbeys, colourful markets and spectacular hilltop towns such as Minerve.
Every European Waterways’ hotel barge is fully crewed with an experienced Captain, attentive hosts/hostesses, a Master Chef who will prepare fine cuisine and a tour guide who will take passengers on excursions in an air-conditioned minibus.
Prices are per person for a 6 night cruise, including accommodation in ensuite cabins, all meals, fine wines, an open bar, excursions, entry fees and local transfers. The hotel barges can also be chartered.
